NO INSTRUCTIONS FROM THE COACH -- WHAT DO YOU DO??
20 seconds left in the game; no time outs; our ball out of bounds; we're 1

ASAP get the ball in the hands of our best free throw shooter/ball handler and
dribble the time away - NO SHOTS
20 seconds left in the game; no time outs; our ball out of bounds; we're 2
points behind
ASAP get the ball in the hands of our playmaker, run the clock down to about 6
seconds, take a three if wide open (on the road), or a two for sure; then deny
on inbounds: allow NO long pass for a fast break
20 seconds left in the game; no time outs; their ball out of bounds; we're 1
point ahead
Deny inbounds, press, steal - but DO NOT foul or allow a fast break
20 seconds left in the game; no time outs; their ball out of bounds; we're 1
point behind
Deny inbounds, press - but DO NOT foul or allow fast break; immediately try to
steal: if unsuccessful, foul poorest free throw shooter available with at least
10 seconds remaining. If they make 2 free throws, set up for a three; if they
make none or 1 (BOX OUT and REBOUND), set up for a two [Get the ball in the
hands of their weakest free thrower by guarding their other 4 players more
closely]
10 seconds left in the game; we're 2 points behind - to win - or lose - the
game, who should have the ball?
I have the confidence to make the play and the desire to win (this should be
true of every player on the floor)
10 seconds left in the game; we're 2 points behind - the coach has set up a
play for Player X, but I'm the best player on the team and I have the ball; what
do I do?
Run the play the coach has set up if available; if not, improvise to win
10 seconds left in the game; we're 2 points behind - the coach has set up a
play for Player X; I have an easy open shot; what do I do?
Take the shot; set up a tight defense; NO fouls or fast break
10 seconds left in the game; we're 1 point behind; we have to foul to have a
chance to get the ball back; I'm the only player in position to take a quick
foul, but I already have 4 fouls and I'm the best player on the team; what do I
do?
FOUL immediately if I can't steal. If they make 2 free throws, set up for a
three; if they make none or 1 (BOX OUT and REBOUND), set up for the best shot
available
At the end of the shot clock or playing time, who keeps track of time
remaining?
The coaches - and EVERY PLAYER on the team - bench players count down!
At the end of playing time, score tied or very close, how do we play the
clock?
Work for a "two for one" if available, but DO NOT take a bad shot.
Always work to take the last shot
In general, at the end of the game, do we play for a tie or the win?
It depends on the players in the game and available, and the game situation:
play for the tie and overtime at home, play for the win on the road
